Moderation policy
The Take is an opinion media outlet. We publish strong positions and we hope you will disagree with us. This policy applies to takes submitted to The Stands, as well as to comments left on our newsletter and on our Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube accounts.
What we expect
Debate ideas, not people. You can disagree with us, with another reader or with a player as strongly as you like, as long as you argue rather than insult.
Takes submitted to The Stands
A take is an opinion about sport, expressed in a single sentence: a prediction, a judgement, a stance. It is not an attack on a person. It can come with a few lines of reasoning and a date when we'll know who was right: both are optional and reviewed together with the take.
Every submitted take is read before publication. We publish a take that disagrees with us just as willingly as one we agree with. We may correct a spelling mistake or remove an element that breaches this policy; in that case, the meaning of the take is not changed.
A take will not be published if it contains:
- an insult, a personal attack, or mockery of a person's appearance, private life or family;
- a serious, unsubstantiated accusation against a named person (doping, corruption, violence, an offence);
- racist, antisemitic, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory content;
- personal information (address, phone number, private photos);
- advertising, a commercial link, or an incentive to gamble;
- unlawful content or content glorifying crimes or offences.
What will be removed from comments
- Insults, personal attacks and harassment directed at our readers, our writers or anyone else.
- Racist, antisemitic, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory content.
- Threats and calls to violence.
- Serious, unsubstantiated accusations against a named person.
- Publication of personal information.
- Unlawful content, or content glorifying crimes or offences.
- Spam, advertising, fraudulent links and repeated messages.
How we moderate
Takes submitted to The Stands are moderated before publication. Comments are moderated after publication. We may delete a comment, remove a take, hide a conversation or block an account that does not respect this policy. We never remove content simply because it disagrees with us. Every author remains responsible for what they publish.
Reporting a take or a comment
On the website, use the "Report" button on each take. On social media, use the platform's reporting tool. You can also write to us at admin@thetake.media with a link to the content concerned. A reported take is reviewed promptly and removed if it does not respect this policy.
